Protect your home from burglary this Summer

When you are at home:

  • Mark your valuables with your postcode using a UV Marker Pen
  • Don’t leave valuables in sight or near open windows and doors
  • Lock your doors and close your windows when you are in your garden
  • Ensure your shed is secure- not leaving garden tools easily accessible
  • Lock the garage and shed with locks of a good quality
  • Use gravel on driveways or close to the entrance/exit of your property
  • Consider joining/forming a Neighbourhood Watch scheme
  • Register your valuables on www.immobilise.com for free

When you are away:

  • Ensure that you don’t advertise that you are going away on social media
  • Ask a friend, family member or neighbour to keep an eye on your property whilst you are away and if they find anything suspicious contact the police on 101
  • Make it look like you are at home- use automatic timer switches on your lamps and radio
  • Cancel all deliveries including milk/papers
  • Lock all doors and windows
  • Set an alarm with a visible alarm box (tell the police who the key holder is)
  • Lock all gates with padlocks
  • Use the Royal Mail's 'Keepsafe' service - they keep your mail for up to 2 months while you're away. Mail sitting on your doorstep is a sign that you are away
